Give your car a break, and minimise the environmental cost of your holiday. There is so much to do in St Ives you might not even miss the car during your stay!

Food and Fun

Pay a visit to the local farmers market and browse the stalls for local produce and goodies. Then pack up a picnic and head down to one of the glorious beaches we have on our doorstep and set up for the afternoon.

See who can find the most interesting shell, pebble or sea creature, who can build the biggest sandcastle or make the best sand sculpture. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos to remind you of the day.

On the Buses

What better way to see the countryside than on top of a double decker bus! Buy tickets for the number 300 Cornwall Explorer for the best views ever.

It stops at Lands End, Sennen, Porthcurno and many other quaint Cornish villages and you can jump on and off as many times as you like, so make a day of it!

Sensational Seal Island

Take one of the many boat trips leaving from the Harbour Front out to Seal Island which lies 3 and 1/2 miles West of St Ives, along the fantastic Cornish coastline.

This rocky outcrop, near Zennor, is home to a colony of Grey Atlantic Seals, where they feel safe, protected from predators and the forces of the Atlantic Ocean. The trip is suitable for all the family.

Surf’s Up

Zip up your wet suit and head down to Porthmeor beach just minutes from the cottage. Here you will find the excellent surf school which is supervised by the amazing RNLI lifeguards.

Make sure you book in advance as this is a very popular activity in St Ives due to the fabulous surf on that beach. Warm up afterwards with a hot chocolate or something stronger a the Porthmeor Beach Café.

The Great Art Trail

St Ives is famous for its large number of eclectic art and craft Galleries. Follow the art trail around the town which includes the Tate St Ives, Barbara Hepworth Museum and Leach Pottery along with numerous other free galleries that you can peruse on your way.

Feeling artistic after all this inspiration then try joining in with one of the art classes run by the St Ives art club.

Mighty Mackerel Fishing

Book a fishing trip with Bluefin charters located off Smeatons Pier. They take their boats out to favoured spots off Porthmeor Beach or The Island and offer a great opportunity for all the family to experience sea fishing in a rich environment, and you get to keep all that you catch!

Along the way make sure you keep a lookout for other wildlife such as common and bottlenose dolphins. The trip includes all necessary equipment and the Skipper will show you the ropes for landing your catch.

Rock Pool Safari

Jump on the train from St Ives and head into Penzance picking up a bucket and spade on the way. The harbour area is beautiful to walk around and boasts its very own pirate ship.

At low tide Battery Rocks is one of the best places for rock pooling in the area. Take photos of all the creatures you find and don’t forget to write them down in our nature book back at the cottage.

Kayaking at Carbis Bay

Take a leisurely stroll down to Carbis Bay where you will find the Ocean Sports Centre who offer Ocean Kayaking which is a great way to get out on the water and you don’t need to have had any previous experience.

They use ‘sit-on-top’ plastic kayaks which are inherently very stable and the placid waters of Carbis Bay are ideal for first-time paddlers and youngsters to enjoy a self-paced voyage of discovery around the coves. They have both single and double kayaks for hire.

A Need for Speed

Book an exhilarating coastal tour with Blue Thunder Ribs who offer speed boat rides around the St Ives coastline.

Guests have the opportunity to quickly navigate from place to place, whilst keeping a watchful eye for marine animals and the magnificent landmarks and coastline. Trips run regularly and there are 3 difference options available.

Sensational Sunsets

One of the best places to see St Ives gorgeous sunsets is from The Island which overlooks Porthmeor Beach.

Walk up to St Nicholas Chapel at the top and take your camera to capture the stunning display as the sun slowly sinks into the Atlantic Sea.
